Hello World by Kathryn Pledger

To all arts advocates, champions of knowledge, lovers of technology, and mavens of music: welcome. You’ve come to the right place!

We’re KUSC Interactive, the arm of USC Radio dedicated to innovation and thought leadership within the global arts community. Our mission? To create fun and engaging new media platforms that help you encounter dynamic storytelling, explore the music you love, and connect with other connoisseurs.

We don’t just say it – we build it. For starters, feast your eyes on Geotunes, our Spotify app that was recently announced as a finalist at the SXSW Interactive Awards. Geotunes presents an interactive map of the world as your musical playground, as you locate and listen to songs written about cities, countries, landmarks, and events. Dozens of brief, yet compelling features uncover hidden stories and truly rare geolocation facts about some of your favorite tunes. Best of all, Geotunes is linked to Spotify’s massive library of music, meaning that the possibilities for growth (and of course, user submissions) are endless.

Based in Los Angeles, KUSC Interactive has also created experiences like WorldVenues, an interactive tour de force of the world’s greatest concert halls; and Soundsnips, a new way to understand and learn about classical music with “pop-up” facts that don’t interrupt the flow of audio.

Our team’s just getting started. We’re continuing to uncover expertly curated, compelling stories wrapped in best-in-class design to deliver some of the most definitive interactive music experiences available.

This blog will be an outlet for original content that challenges the way we think about classical music in the 21st century, especially in terms of its place within the advancing technological landscape. We’ll look to bridge the gap between fine arts and the digital space, with an eye toward empowering and informing music lovers, performers, advocates, educators, and students.

Don’t change that dial.
